ATTICUS
Some of our classmates
Were wearing pink duct tape
Silently roaming the halls
The cool kids were laughing
Insecurity passing it off
As a joke not a wrong
And Atticus I didn’t know
What you suffered
And I wish I would’ve been kinder
All of the boys down the hallway
Just serve as reminder
We all need a place to belong
But just so you know
I wouldn’t change you
I don’t want a different you
I see how you wrestle
In love and in earnest
I see how you strive
To follow your purpose
I wish they all could see you like I do
‘Cause Atticus the world needs you
I wish I could carry
The pain that you’ve buried
I wish I’d stood up for you
I hope you’ll forgive me
For the way I’ve been living
I don’t always know what to do
But I believe Jesus
Is more than a zeitgeist
And I believe someday
He’ll make every wrong right
I believe we’ll be there
Holding our hands out ‘cause oh
How we all need a place to belong
And just so you know
I wouldn’t change you
I don’t want a different you
I see how you wrestle
In love and in earnest
I see how you strive
To follow your purpose
I wish they all could see you like I do
‘Cause Atticus oh the world needs you
The world needs you
You taught me grace
You taught me patience
Empathy, compassion
Love and forebearance
I hope you know that I
I want to be more like you
‘Cause I see how you wrestle
In love and in earnest
I see how you strive
To follow your purpose
I wish they all could see you like I do
‘Cause Atticus the world needs you
